Arguably a work of art in itself, this 300sqm property deftly mixes natural timbers with punchy colours and artistic flourishes. Set amongst mature pōhutukawa trees, this three-bedroom home on a corner site raises eyebrows and generates smiles, not least because of the colourful, playful fence. A community art project, the client’s friends, family and neighbours along with Calley Home’s builders and subcontractors created pieces of art from the build’s waste which were inserted into the fence panels.
There’s also the custom stainless steel slide that snakes out of the upper floor connecting it with the lower floor – an element that adds design interest and whimsy. Punctuating the exterior cladding are yellow, green and red coloured glass windows that match the lemon, lime and raspberry colour theme, whilst a local street artist was commissioned to paint the shadow of the corner pōhutukawa tree onto the exterior.
Inside, combinations of colours and materials somehow dovetail into something that’s both cohesive and joyful. Informal and lively, it’s described by the client as a ‘series of accidents’.
The client chose Aaria super wide and long Luxury Vinyl Planks which feature beautiful timber texture and grain that you can see and feel.
